Linos Wengara Magaya is the frontman of Zimbaremabwe, a UK-based band that specialises in live Zimbabwean traditional music and Mbira Reggae, an original style fusing Mbira with reggae.
Magaya grew up in a spiritual family in Zimbabwe and learned Mbira and its cultural ways through participation and playing in many ceremonies and cultural life. He also found himself on a path as a Svikiro (spiritual healer) and devoted his energy to developing this. Being very musically motivated, he created a band in his early teens with whom he played and toured many parts of Zimbabwe and opened for the legendary Thomas Mapfumo in 1995.
This latest edition of Africa Day Every Day’s ‘Echoes of Africa’ collaboration with Woolwich Works comes off the back of a successful pilot project in May that featured Ethiopian Temesgen Zeleke. The event is proudly supported by Colourful Radio. Featuring in-depth conversations, interviews, Q&As, and live performances, Echoes of Africa is a digital programme and live event series that transports listeners on an odyssey of captivating African sounds. It’s a sonic excursion that celebrates African heritage and helps to rekindle and preserve cherished memories while bridging the gap between cultures and generations.
Linos plays an important role in representing Zimbabwean spiritual culture in the UK and has a busy practice, offering spiritual healing, and cultural advice to Zimbabweans and Africans in general.
