Shambel Abebe Bikila (7 Aug 1932 – 25 Oct 1973) was a marathon runner and back-to-back Olympic marathon champion. He was the first Ethiopian and the first Black African Olympic gold medalist, winning his first gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, set while running barefoot!
